What is covered under Audi A4 manufacturer car warranty?
Virtually all car manufacturers offer a factory warranty on new vehicles. A factory/manufacturer's warranty usually includes a new vehicle limited warranty, sometimes referred to as a bumper-to-bumper warranty. A factory warranty may also include a powertrain warranty, maintenance, corrosion and emissions coverage. Here's what is covered and excluded from the Audi warranty for a new A4.
1. Nature of Warranty
Audi South Africa (a Division of Volkswagen of South Africa (Pty) Limited) warrants that the vehicle is free from defects in material and workmanship according to current industrial standards.
This warranty is:
(a) Expressly in lieu of all other warranties, obligations or liabilities, whether for direct or consequential damage or otherwise;
(b) For the benefit of the manufacturer of the vehicle, Audi South Africa and the Audi Dealer.

2. Period
2.1 This warranty becomes effective on the date of delivery of the vehicle to the purchaser and is valid for a period of one (1) year from date of delivery. Claims during the period will not extend the warranty.
2.2 This warranty remains in force notwithstanding transfer of ownership in the vehicle.
3. Claims
Claims for repairs or defects can be made only at authorised Audi Dealers and must be made immediately upon ascertaining the defect.
4. Warranty Cover
The warranty covers the replacement or repair of defective parts according to technical requirements. Replaced items become the property of Audi South Africa. This basic coverage for Audi vehicles takes care of most of the components but, like most warranties, does not cover wear and tear. Still, this warranty only provides a short coverage term.
5. Cost
No charge will be raised against the customer with regard to the cost of repairing or replacing defective parts in terms of the warranty, except for the cost of consumables such as oil, grease, brake fluid, and additives, etc.
6. Exclusions
This warranty does not cover damage or defects due to:
(a) Repair of the vehicle by a workshop, not authorised to effect the service and/or repair;
(b) Installation of parts and/or accessories, the use, of which has not been approved by Audi South Africa;
(c) Failure by the purchaser to comply with the instructions for the operation of the vehicle as reflected in the Instruction Manual, Operating Specifications and any other documentation accompanying the vehicle on the date of delivery and/ or brought to the attention of the purchaser;
(d) Failure by the purchaser to comply with the service schedule. In this regard it should be noted that Audi South Africa reserves the right to reject any warranty claims and/or repudiate the warranty cover if services are not carried out within 1 000 kilometres of the specified service interval;
(e) Maintenance and normal wear and tear including, but not necessarily limited to:
(i) Brake and clutch linings, fan belts, drive belts, V-belts, wiper blades and injectors;
(ii) Standard services and oil changes, including oils, gaskets, filters and other materials used either during or after the services such as oil and grease;
(iii) Light bulbs and fuses;
(iv) Wheel balancing, front and rear wheel alignment, the frequency of which depends largely on driving techniques such as rapid starts, stops, tyre skidding, collision with potholes and kerbs;
(v) Mechanical adjustments to items such as brakes, clutch and door locks;
(vi) Windscreen and window glass breakage after the expiry of one (1) month from the date of purchase of the vehicle or after it has covered a distance of 1 000 kilometres, whichever occurs first;

(vii) Tyres. Claims must be referred to the manufacturer of the tyres;
(viii) Batteries which are guaranteed by the manufacturer of the battery for a period of twelve (12) months. This does not apply to cracked batteries for which a claim may be submitted to Volkswagen of South Africa (Pty) Limited, provided such claim occurs within 7 000 kilometres. Claims after 7 000 kilometres will not be accepted;
(ix) Remote control batteries;
(x) The effects of industrial pollution, corrosion damage brought about by weather conditions or damage to paintwork and chrome in consequence of climatic, thermal, chemical or mechanical influences;
(f) Improper handling or misuse, including but not limited to any form of competition;
(g) Poor road and adverse driving conditions resulting in damage to components which include, but are not necessarily limited to, oil sump, rims and tyres;
(h) Modifications, conversions, tuning, upgrading and fitment of non-approved after-market accessories. This exclusion applies notwithstanding compliance with any guidelines relating to modifications issued by the Manufacturer, Audi South Africa and Audi Dealer;
(i) Accident or impact damage.
This warranty further excludes:
(a) Indirect and/or consequential losses which include, but are not necessarily limited to, charges incidental to breakdowns (e.g. hotel costs), loss of personal effects and clothing, loss of income, hire of alternative transport, etc.;
(b) Any Common Law rights and remedies.
The exclusions survive the termination of the warranty, for whatever reason.
