How to replace a lightbulb on a Volkswagen Amarok

Older model VW Amarok models use an older-style halogen bulb and can be relatively easily replaced with some elbow grease and know-how. We show you how to replace the headlight bulb on the previous generation VW Amarok.

The Volkswagen Amarok has long been the choice of the well-heeled who wanted the convenience of a workhorse with the practical luxury that comes from high-end VW models. Older model Volkswagen Amaroks employ halogen-style bulbs and headlight housings and with a little know-how can be replaced when they fuse. Newer models make use of sealed LED units and are not user-serviceable.

Doing DIY maintenance is easier than you think, especially when you have a large engine bay.  Getting to the back of the headlights requires a tad more work but changing out a headlight bulb is easy after you remove the headlight assembly.

Let's take a look at how it's done.

You will need:

  • Replacement H7 bulbs 
  • T36 Torx bit and driver

* Newer models will require H15 sealed LED units that are "agents only" parts.

 

 

Let's get it done

1. Open the bonnet

 

2. Use the Torx bit to remove the hold-down screws

 

3. Remove the headlight from the vehicle.

4. Remove the cover at the rear of the assembly

5. Twist the holder to remove

 

6. Exchange bulb

 

7. Reassemble in reverse order

 

8. Repeat on opposite side.
