The VW Polo is South Africa's favourite passenger car for a number of reasons. High on that list of reasons is the fact that they are super simple to do minor DIY maintenance on. Easy tasks such as changing a headlight bulb are quick and you can do them right at home, and we can show you how with this easy step-by-step tutorial.

You will need a few inexpensive tools but nothing that's gonna break the bank.

You will need:

New headlight bulbs (correct wattage and amperage for your model)
Torx bit & driver

Let's get it done!

Open the bonnet
Using the Torx bit and driver, remove the screws that hold the headlight assembly in place.
Unclip the connecter plug from the assembly.
Carefully remove the assembly.
Locate the cover on the cover on the back of the assembly and remove the retaining clips.
Remove the connecter plug from the back of the bulb.
Remove the bulb.
Install a new bulb.
Replace connector, cover and clips.
Reinstall the assembly and test the unit.

Pro tip: DO NOT touch the new bulb with your bare hands as it transfers oils to the glass that burn in place, reducing the lifespan of the new bulb
