How to replace a headlight bulb on a Subaru Impreza (GC8G)
With the majority of motor vehicles now sporting LED style headlights it is really only older and base model vehicles that still make use of halogen-style bulbs. We show you how to replace the headlight bulbs in an older model Subaru.
WRX Headlights
The Subaru WRX is a legendary motor vehicle that is highly sought after by enthusiasts. The GC8 model from 1999-2001 is a rarity on South African roads but is still an impressive car to drive. Although the four-cylinder boxer engine gives many a mechanic sleepless nights, the rest of the vehicle is relatively easy to work on, especially when it comes to small DIY jobs that you tackle right at home.

Replacing the headlight bulbs can be done without having to remove the headlight clusters but the available space is limited so those with larger hands may struggle. We show you how to replace the main lightbulbs in just a few steps.
How to replace the car battery on a Subaru XV
You will need:
- Replacement H4 bulbs
- 5.5mm Allen key
Let's get it done
1. Open the bonnet
2. Locate back of headlight
2. Remove the wiring plug
3. Remove the rubber dust cover
4. Remove the retaining clip
5. Replace the bulb
6. Reassemble in reverse order
7. The opposite side will require removal of the air inlet to gain access to the rear of the cluster. Use the 5.5mm Allen key to remove the hold-down bolt and remove air snorkel.
8. Follow steps 2 through 6
