The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro was first launched locally in November 2021. Since then, it has proven to be a popular choice for consumers after a sensible, practical, but mostly affordable crossover that makes very few compromises. Indeed, the high, standard specification available in the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has made it endearing to the consumer and worrisome for other manufacturers.

The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro continues to sell well, with recent sales figures showing it to be one of the top-selling passenger cars in South Africa. Chery sold more than 1,100 units in July 2024, and it shows no signs of slowing either.

The model range was updated and revised in 2023, with Chery dropping the initial Urban and Comfort trims in favour of the budget-friendly LiT variant, both with a 5-speed manual, CVT, or 7-speed DCT gearbox. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has been revised every year that it has been on sale. This makes gauging the depreciation a little tricky, so we will work off the 2022 lineup that still contains the Urban and Comfort trims, as these will be found more readily on the used market.

Verdict

The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Elite CVT comes off the worst in this study, losing a quarter of its value in two years. This is a common occurrence where the higher-spec variants lose the most over a shorter period of time.

The winner is the cheapest of the range, the Urban trim, with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. This one has lost the least over the last two years. The LiT variant replaced the Urban trim, and we can deduce that its future value will behave roughly the same as that of the Urban trim.
