With an impressive 528 963 unit sales in 2022, South Africa makes up nearly 50% of the total African new vehicle market. The best-selling vehicle locally is the Toyota Hilux, with nearly 30 000 of Toyota's popular bakkie finding homes locally during 2022!
Other African nations
Algeria
The Algerian market is rather small, with just over 25 000 new cars sold in 2022 with Dacia securing some 27% of the market share with products such as the Sandero, Logan and Lodgy.
Egypt
Despite a massive drop in new car sales in 2022, there were still 174 538 new vehicles sold over the course of the 12 months. The Chevrolet T-Series, the brand's mid-size bakkie, was again the best-selling car in the region in 2022, with over 10% of the market share!

With only a few thousand new vehicle sales per year, Ghana is a small market, but the most popular model is Toyota Hilux which has an 11.1% market share.
Kenya
With just 13 352 unit sales in 2022, Kenya is a small market for so-called "zero-mileage new cars" with many second-hand vehicles from Japan being brought in to satiate the demand for affordable mobility. Among the new products sold, it would appear that the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace was the most popular!
Morocco
Total vehicle sales in Morocco for 2022 were reported at 161 410 units, with the locally manufactured Dacia brand securing some 20% of the market share with models such as the Lodgy, Sandero and Logan.
