More on the Kwid

This is the Kwid Ultra LTD EDT which was available for a limited time towards the end of 2020.

The Renault Kwid arrived in SA in towards the end of 2016 and was an instant, runaway success, offering affordable mobility to all. It was met with criticism, however, as those first Kwid models didn't have ABS, and its crash-test safety rating was rather unsettling, due to its structural integrity, or rather, the lack thereof.

The Kwid has come a long way since then, and even though it's still not a car we really recommend to people, it continues to be Renault's top-selling passenger vehicle. It certainly has its strong points but it has some flaws too. We know this because the following article remains of the most-read articles on AutoTrader: Warning light identification - Renault Kwid

Safety features

A touchscreen that also displays the rear camera's view was added with the last facelift and is available on all Kwids except the entry-level 1.0 Life model.

In terms of safety, the Renault KWID has dual front airbags and ABS. A seat belt reminder presents an added safety feature. The road-holding is enhanced thanks to the new 14” wheels and a more robust rear axle. All models of Kwid have LED daytime running lamps, and fog lamps are present in all but the entry-level Kwid. Park distance control is standard across the board.

Maintaining the Kwid

This interior also belongs to the 2020 Kwid in Ultra LTD EDT trim.

The Kwid so happens to be the car that boasts the cheapest parts basket in South Africa, according to 2020's Kinsey Report. But how cheap (or expensive) is it to maintain? Sean wrote an in-depth article that sheds some light on the cost of long-term Kwid ownership here: Is the Renault Kwid expensive to maintain?

Alternatives to the Kwid

The Toyota Agya, Suzuki Celerio , Suzuki Swift, Kia Picanto and Polo Vivo are all great little cars with a better reputation. Why not search for these used and new models right here on AutoTrader?
