What do they share?

While we're comparing specifications here, it's important to note that the range shares similarities, namely the same TNGA-F ladder-frame chassis from the Land Cruiser 300, feature full-time four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case and Multi-Terrain Select, 9 airbags, have seven seats and are powered by a 150kW/500Nm 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. All models can tow 3 500kg (braked) and feature an 80-litre fuel tank with a 30-litre secondary tank.

The TX

The TX offers great value and a solid set of standard features as the entry point into the new Prado range. These include 18-inch alloy wheels, a locking rear differential, traction and stability control, a digitised climate control system, a multi-function steering wheel, lane departure and lane keep assist systems and a blind spot monitor. There's also a digitised instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, a colour touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-speaker audio system, keyless entry/start, leather seats, electrically adjustable heated/ventilated front seats, LED headlights, taillights, fog lights and daytime running lights, front and rear PDC and a rearview camera, and electrically operated tailgate, side running boards and 206mm of ground clearance.

The VX-R

The VX-R takes what the TX has and adds a digital rear-view mirror, a larger infotainment screen, gloss black side mirror housings, a 10-speaker audio system, electrically operated third-row seating, adaptive LED headlights, a locking centre differential, a surround-view camera, 216mm of ground clearance and a new stabiliser-bar control system that allows the from stabiliser bar to be decoupled, allowing for greater wheel articulation.

The VX-R 1st Edition

The 1st Edition models will only be available for a limited period. They share specifications with the standard VX-R but get special badging, retro-inspired headlights and brown leather seats! There's another 1st Edition model called the Bi-Tone, which, as its name suggests, means its roof will be a contrasting colour to its bodywork!
