Top 4 extras you should fit to a used BMW 7 Series

Just because a car comes almost fully-equipped off the showroom floor doesn’t mean that there isn’t some room for improvement. We scoured BMW’s original accessories list to find the top 4 extras you should fit to a used 7 Series.

Buying a Car

In the course of researching this article, it quickly became apparent that fairly new (2017-ish vintage) BMW 7 Series cars can be had at comparative bargain prices. Take the 2017 BMW 730d as an example: it retailed for more than R 1.5-million when new, yet it’s currently valued at less than half as much.

This could make an older 7 Series a serious bargain for used-car buyers, giving more space and luxury than a similarly-priced new, mid-sized, 4-cylinder SUV, for instance. Just remember to buy an extended warranty to go with your used 7 Series, just in case something expensive goes wrong as it ages further (because the OEM maintenance plan will expire soon).

To spice up a used BMW 7 Series, we looked at the BMW accessories brochure, to check out some extras to make it even nicer. Some of these extras can be fitted at home, while others will necessitate a trip to the dealership. Either way, these accessories will enhance your ownership experience, and give you a unique luxury car for a comparative bargain price.

1. 21-inch BMW M Performance alloy wheels

Bigger wheels will immediately impart an upper-class image to a used 7 Series, and it certainly won’t hurt if the new wheels are very pretty as well. These wheels can be ordered and fitted at your nearest dealership, and are sure to enhance your used 730d’s appearance – whether it’s fitted with M Sport goodies ex-factory or not.

BMW also offers a selection of other wheel upgrades, ranging from 18-inch units to 21-inchers, and supply matching tyres to fit the upgraded wheels as well. They are sure to be pricey, mind you, but will help to avoid the “customised” aura of aftermarket wheels...

2. Travel & Comfort System

This nifty gadget allows for a host of accessories to be attached to the front seatbacks, for the convenience of the rear-seat passengers. Fitting between the front headrest supports, the base carrier can be used to support a host of attachments, ranging from fold-down tables and coat hangers to tablet holders. This will be particularly handy if the first owner didn’t order the rear-seat entertainment system.

3. BMW Child Seats

Even though your used BMW 7 Series will feature rear ISOFIX child seat anchors, you may want to provide even better protection for children up to the age of approximately 12 years (max 36 kg) with these OEM child seats. Designed to integrate with the 7 Series’ standard safety system, they even feature unique “airpads” to optimise side-impact protection, and their stylish appearance will complement the classy ambience in your used luxury sedan.

4. Wireless Charging Dock

Designed to fit into the centre console of the current (G11) 7 Series, this elegant wireless charging system will securely hold your phone in position while you’re driving, and charge it according to the Qi protocol as well. And, with the G11’s seamless smartphone integration, you’ll never need to touch your phone on the road, nor mess about with cables when you enter or exit your luxury cocoon, either.
