Is the BMW X3 a good car?

The BMW X3 forms part of the brand's successful SUV lineup, offering the raised ride height, premium interior and potent engine range one expect from a high-end German SUV.  With thousands of X3s on local roads, it is safe to say that the X3 is a very good car indeed.

Who is the BMW X3 a good car for?

Being an SUV, the X3 appeals to those with an active lifestyle, the need for a reasonable amount of off-road capability, those who want a raised driving position and a product with luxury features.

Is the BMW X3 a good 4x4?

The X3 range is available with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as an option. The xDrive system is what is knows as a variable all-wheel drive system, able to send power to both the front and rear wheels in varying percentages.

Is the BMW X3 a good family car?

With a 550-litre boot, which can expand to 1600-litres with the rear seats folded flat. It also has a 5-Star safety rating, ISOFIX child seat anchor points and seating for five occupants, making it very practical for families.

Is the BMW X3 a sportscar?

While most of the X3 range consists of efficient small-capacity petrol and diesel engines, there are three performance models available. Two of the performance models are M-Performance models in the form of the M40d and M40i while a pukka M-Division model is available in the form of the X3 M Competition. The three high-performance models aren't exactly sportscars, but are certainly potent performers.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewers opinion

"Make no mistake, though: once the engine is on the boil, this is a very, very rapid car. That sustained wave of mid-range torque makes for effortless overtaking acceleration, and burying the noise pedal in the carpet unleashes a surge of power that doesn’t let up until the digital rev counter heads towards the 7 000 r/min mark. It makes a very nice noise when wrung out to the red line, too, accompanied by surprisingly muted burbles from the exhaust when the driver lifts off the throttle."

What is the BMW X3 like inside?

The interior of the X3 features the very latest BMW design aesthetics, combining soft-touch materials with exceptional build quality. There are a host of interior trim and colour options, all of which provide the expected premium SUV experience.

Style

There are nineteen models within the X3 lineup and several trim options, including the standard,  xLine, M Sport, M-Performance and M-Division. The M Sport, M-Performance and M-Division models all have a sporty design language while standard and xLine derivatives feature a more off-road-ready look.
