The A5 made its first appearance in 2007 and in 2016 Audi launched the current and second-generation. At the end of 2020, the German automaker applied a variety of updates to both the interior and exterior of the entire range which consists of coupe, cabriolet and Sportback configurations.
The A5 shares the same Audi MLP platform (Modular Longitudinal Platform) with the A4 range, however that A4 is only available in sedan and station wagon form. Whether you are considering a new or used Audi A5 model on AutoTrader, the model range will meet the requirements of the most discerning buyer.
1. Technology
In terms of driver assistant systems, the A5 range comes well-equipped. Drivers can expect items such as electromechanical power steering, hill-hold assist, cruise control system with speed limiter and front and rear park distance control sensors to make everyday commutes easy and more importantly safe.
One of the key new features on the updated models is the standard fitment of the Audi MMI touch display which is the centre of control. The 10.1-inch touchscreen which returns an acoustic confirmation once an item is selected replaces the traditional rotary dial and push-button configuration that feature in earlier models. The system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a built-in navigation system.
You can also easily connect your smartphone to the system via the Bluetooth and Audi smartphone interfaces. Phone calls and music, as well as navigational instructions, are sent through the standard sound system for a hands-free environment.
2. Powertrains
While the entry-level models remain front-wheel driven, higher tier trim levels see the iconic quattro system fitted which sends power to all four wheels for improved acceleration and grip. But you might wonder what exactly is fitted under the bonnet, so let us take a closer look.

3. Safety
Whether you opt for the entry-level A5 trim or decided you will have the RS5 flagship variants, owners can rest assured knowing that there are six airbags at their disposal. That is if the ABS brakes with electronic brake assist system and electronic brake-force distribution system did not bring them to a halt in time.
Audi also incorporates an Audi pre sense basic system on the entire A5 range which utilizes information from various vehicle systems such as the electronic stability control sensors. Once the system detects skidding or hard braking it activates a host of safety items. First, the seat belts of the driver and front passenger are electrically tensioned prior to the collision to mitigate forward and lateral movements.
In addition to this, the system automatically closes the side windows and sunroof and activates the hazard warning lights. The now-standard Audi connect system will even automatically place an emergency call once it detects an accident has occurred so that the emergency services can be alerted as quickly as possible.
