The Jaguar XE traces its roots back to the troubled Ford-ownership era with a model called the X-Type. Designed to take on the compact sedans from the German Big 3, the X-Type offered a level of class and luxury that the others weren't offering at the time. It attempted to blend British styling with modern demands and sadly missed the mark. It ended up being neither British nor relevant and suffered, especially in South Africa.

The Jaguar XE addressed many of these concerns and with Jaguar's hands free from the Ford restraints, were able to craft a rather viable alternative to the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A4. Here at AutoTrader, we're rather fond of the model and wish we would see more consumers consider the Jaguar.

For the 2021 model year, Jaguar injected some new life into the model range, giving it improved connectivity and a host of comfort features that suit modern lifestyles. Here are the Top 3 features that help the Jaguar XE jump off the page.

1. Pivi Pro Infotainment

The Pivi Pro infotainment system is the latest in-car information and entertainment system from Jaguar. This clever system runs off of its own power source as part of Jaguar's Electronic Vehicle Architecture (EV 2.0). What this means to you is seamless connectivity as the system powers up as soon as you unlock the car, starting the pairing process so that by the time you sit down, your smart device is connected and ready to go. It's a seemingly small feature but it makes a massive difference.

The system uses three screens. A 10-inch screen acts as the main interface, displaying audio and vehicle controls while the 5.5-inch screen below it handles HVAC controls and telephony. Both of these tie into the 12.3-inch driver display and reflect various aspects, allowing the driver to stay focussed on the road.

This new system also features dual-SIM connectivity which will allow you to run two SIM cards from two different service providers. This ensures that patchy network signal won't' interrupt your navigation or audio streaming. It also means that infotainment functions are not interrupted when the system performs its automatic over-the-air updates (Software Over The Air/SOTA). Both cards act as WiFi hotspots and the unit allows for two Bluetooth connections simultaneously.

2. Activity Key

Perfect for the individual who leads an active lifestyle, the Activity Key is a wearable, waterproof wristwatch. This second-generation key is a stylish addition to the wardrobe and will allow the wearer to unlock, lock and start the Jaguar XE without having to carry the actual key fob with them. While it may seem like a gimmick at first, cyclists, runners, sportsmen and particularly those that partake in water sports, will love the idea of not having to worry about where they left their key.

3. Cabin Ionisation

Not only is the Jaguar XE good for your soul, but it's also great for your health too. Customers who venture into the city and industrial areas will love the Enhanced Cabin Air Ionisation system that filters the cabin air and purifies it through Nanoe technology. This removes unwanted odours and allergens from the can air and can filter out particles as small as PM2.5. A simple push of the 'Purify' button is all it takes to fill the cabin with wonderful, clean and healthy air.
