Top 3 things you need to know about the Jaguar XE

The Jaguar XE has been featuring on the local market for quite some time now, however, doesn't look a day older since its introduction. Here are the top three things you need to know about the Jaguar XE.

The Jaguar XE first launched locally in 2015 and is not only the entry point into the Jaguar product range but also for the sedan range. But make no mistake, the British automaker did not hold back when designing and manufacturing the XE as it offers just as much class, style and luxury as the more premium models. Like most manufacturers, Jaguar has shrunk their sedan range to only offer two models, the XE and XF, while expanding on its SUV offerings.

But an XE customer is still spoiled for choice as the British marque offers six derivatives in the model range, starting with the Jaguar XE P250 S and progressing up to the flagship Jaguar XE P300 AWD R-Dynamic HSE. Here are the top three things you need to know about the range.

1. Powertrain

While all the six variants have a similar 2.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission under the bonnet. The flagship model, XE P300 AWD R-Dynamic HSE, see Jaguar squeeze out more power. While the XE P300 AWD R-Dynamic HSE manages 221 kW and 400 Nm of torque, the rest of the range offers 184 kW and 365 Nm of torque.

The XE P300 AWD R-Dynamic HSE is also the only derivative to offer an all-wheel-drive system whereas the rest of the variants send their power to the rear wheels only. The additional power and all-wheel-drive system in the flagship models result in a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h whereas the rest of the range accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and will only go on to 242 km/h.

2. Exterior

The latest iteration of the XE arrived in 2019 and saw a variety of styling and functional changes applied to the exterior. Upfront the newer XE offers larger air dams with the S and SE variants retaining a more classic and elegant design whereas the R-Dynamic trims see a more aggressive style applied. Above those apertures now feature full LED headlights with the signature J-blade daytime running lights incorporated.

At the rear, customers will also find full LED taillamps with an updated signature light design. Also very noticeable is the 18-inch wheels which come fitted as standard equipment.

3. Interior

Jaguar pulled out all the stops on the interior of the most modern version of the XE as it features new trim options and materials and share items such as the steering wheel, centre console and gear selector lever with vehicles such as the i-Pace and F-Type models. The driver also gains access to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as part of the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system.

Customers also now benefit from wireless smartphone charging and depending on the optional packs specified will get items such as a heated windscreen, heated steering wheel, head-up display, ClearSight rear-view mirror, illuminated treadplates, bright pedals, configurable ambient lighting and keyless entry.
