There's no denying that the Ford Ranger is a good looking machine, but its success is as a result of the entire package. So it goes without saying that the safety features on the Ford Ranger are worth noting.

We've rounded up 20 safety features on the Ford Ranger that we think you should know about – that's right, 20!

It's worth noting that not all models will have all of these features and in some models, there may be a slight difference, but it the range-topping Wildtrak model, this is the impressive list of safety features that you can expect to find.

 

1. ABS
   Anti-lock brakes make sure that the maximum amount of braking force can be applied without losing control.
      

2. EBD and EBA

   Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist help keep the Ranger planted and stable during hard braking. The EBA will increase the brake-force should there be a rapid application of the brakes.

       

3. Adaptive Cruise Control  

   ACC ensures that the correct following distance is maintained at all times, no matter what speed the cruise control is set at or what the traffic conditions may be.

       

4. Speed Limiter

   It's easy to let the pace of the Ranger creep away with you. Setting the Speed Limiter will ensure that you don't break the law and receive a nasty “love letter” from the traffic department.

       

5. Collision Warning Alert

   This system monitors the traffic situation ahead of you and calculates whether it thinks you're travelling too fast for the traffic ahead, alerting you to the fact audibly and visually.

       

6. Lane Departure Warning  

   Lane Departure Warning will alert you to the fact that you're nearing, or crossing, a lane in the road. It will help you stay in your lane with a visual warning.

       

7. Lane Keep Assist  

   To help you stay in your lane, the Ranger will gently steer the vehicle back between the lines if it feels you are straying from the straight and narrow.

       

8. Airbags   

   The Ranger Wildtrak has a total of 7 airbags, including side and curtain airbags, that will inflate in the event of an accident to help reduce injuries.

       

9. Auto Headlights  

   Never forget to switch on your headlights again. As visibility starts to deteriorate, the headlights will come on automatically to help you see better.

       

10. Reverse Camera  

    Know exactly what's behind your Ranger when reversing with a colour camera display of what is behind you.

        

11. Tyre Pressure Monitoring 

    TPM keeps a steady eye on your tyre pressures and will alert you should one of the values be lower than is safe. Early detection of a puncture is critical to your safety.

        

12. Electronic Stability Program   

    ESP ensures that you keep the Ranger pointed in the right direction by modulating the torque applied to the drive wheels and applying the brakes on the wheels needed to prevent a loss of control.

        

13. Roll-over Mitigation  

    Roll-over Mitigation works in conjunction with the ESP to ensure that the Ranger stays right-way-up – with the wheels on the tar and the shiny bit facing up.

        

14. Hill Launch Assist  

    Pulling away on a severe incline has never been easier, whether it's forward or reverse. The Hill Launch Assist will make sure that you don't roll into danger.

        

15. Hill Descent Control  

    Driving down a steep hill can be dangerous as gravity fights to pull you down faster than is safe. Hill Descent control regulates the speed so that you don't have to worry about it.

        

16. Trailer Sway Control  

    Trailer Sway Control ensures that no matter what you are towing, the trailer will remain straight and true and won't upset the balance of the Ranger towing it.

        

17. Traction Control  

    Traction Control will prevent the tyres from slipping either on wet roads or on loose surfaces. Works in combination with the ESC systems.

        

18. Adaptive Load Control   

    ALC works to keep the vehicle stable when it's been loaded up. It will adjust the parameters of the ESP system to ensure safe travelling.

        

19. Driver Impairment Monitor  

    Driver Impairment Monitor uses the forward-facing camera and onboard sensors to detect if the driver is drowsy. It will gradually alert them through audible signals.

        

20. ISOFIX mountings  

    ISOFIX mounting points allow you to securely attach a child seat to anchor points, ensuring that they get the maximum protection in the event of an accident.
