SA's best-sellers paint the town red!

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, let's look at the various shades of red South Africa's best-selling cars are available in!

The 15 best-selling cars of January 2024 presented very few surprises, with the usual suspects all making an appearance. With Valentine's Day coming up, let's look at which of the top 15 sellers are available in red and what each brand has chosen to name each specific hue.

1. Toyota Hilux

With some 2 645 unit sales in January, the Hilux was comfortably the best-selling vehicle in SA again. Still, we envision a small percentage of these bakkies sold in the rather interesting Arizona Red hue!

2. Volkswagen Polo Vivo

With 2 034 units sold in January 2024, the Polo Vivo is the best-selling passenger car locally yet again. As with the Hilux, the Wild Cherry Red Metallic colour option is a far richer, more sophisticated red than we had expected.

3. Ford Ranger

With 1 914 units finding new homes in January, the new Ford Ranger continues to be a great success for the brand, and despite Lucid Red being a relatively elusive colour, it definitely looks great!

4. Toyota Corolla Cross

We'd go as far as to say that Arizona Red Bi-tone is the best colour available on the Corolla Cross, and a good chunk of the 1 660 units sold in January were most certainly this deep red!

5. Suzuki Swift

Coming in a dramatically named Solid Fire Red hue, the Suzuki Swift, the Japanese brand's best-selling product, is a striking colour, but we don't envision too many of the 1 566 units sold in January to have been finished in this colour.

6. Toyota Starlet

With 1 479 units sold in January, the specific red hue in the Starlet range is Luxe Red.

7. Isuzu D-Max

Another locally-produced bakkie, the Isuzu D-Max, regularly cracks the top ten in terms of local sales, and with 1 336 units in January, the D-max cemented its place. This model is available in the so-called Pull Me Over Red!

8. Toyota Hi-Ace

South Africa's favourite people mover registered some 1 229 unit sales in January; however, its utilitarian nature means that Toyota only sell the Hi-Ace in either white or silver.

9. Volkswagen Polo (hatch)

With 1 079 units sold in January 2024, the Polo range is not as popular as it once was. Still, the GTI derivative is available in a stunning Kings Red Metallic for those after one of these locally made models!

10. Toyota Fortuner

South Africa's best-selling off-road-ready 7-seater racked up 974 sales in January 2024, and looking at the online configurator, there is no red paint option within the range, but do you think this should change?

11. Nissan NP200

As the last small half-ton bakkie sold new locally, the soon-to-be-discontinued NP200 remains the best-selling Nissan locally, with 969 units sold in January! From what we could find, a red is available in the range, called Claren Red!

12. Chery Tiggo 4 Pro

Chery has been back in the local market for two years now, and its Tiggo range, particularly the 4 Pro models, is very popular, with 914 units sold in January alone! There is a red option available within the range, although we cannot say we've ever seen one in the metal!

13. Nissan Magnite

With some 843 units sold in January, the Nissan Magnite is certainly a local favourite, and it just happens to look best in Flare Garnet Red!

14. Hyundai Grand i10

The heavily updated Grand i10 managed to find 783 new homes in January and is available in Fiery Red!

15. Suzuki Ertiga

Suzuki's affordable people mover, the Ertiage, managed 657 unit sales in January. The red hue available in the range is called Auburn Red.
