Traditionally the BMW 6 Series was only offered in coupé form and later a cabriolet was introduced with the second generation model range. The third-generation BMW 6 Series made its debut in 2011 which for the first time saw a 4-door coupé variant added named Gran Coupé. It was only in the fourth-generation 6 Series range where the 5-door Gran Turismo model was introduced, replacing the 5 Series Gran Turismo.

The G32 Gran Turismo which is marketed as a fastback was introduced in 2017 and has seen more than 50 000 customers around the world taking delivery. BMW has released information on the new model which is expected to arrive soon, so let us take a closer look at what you can expect if you trade your old 6 Series for the new offering.
1. Exterior styling
The new BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo follows in the footsteps of the outgoing model, incorporating a similar silhouette yet featuring newly designed 17- or 18-inch light-alloy wheels. Customers can optionally specify 18- to 20-inch wheels. While offering a similar body style, upfront the new Gran Turismo features updated headlights which flank the much larger kidney grille.
While the rear remains mostly the same, the rear apron receives a slight update to give a wider appearance. Customers also benefit from additional paint finishes namely; Phytonic Blue metallic, Piedmont Red metallic and Bernina Grey Amber effect. Vehicles specified with an M sport package see paint options further bolstered to include Dravite Grey metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic and Alvit Grey metallic.
2. Interior features
Amongst the all-Black high-gloss surfaces, owners gain access to a variety of new features and updates added to the new 6 Series GT. The instrument cluster which features BMW Live Cockpit Professional as standard is upgraded from 10.25-inch to 12.3-inches. Similarly, the central touchscreen also now manifest as a 12.3-inch unit instead of the 10.25-inch unit in the outgoing model.
Not only does the driver benefit from BMW's latest Operating System 7, but rear passengers also gain access via two 10.25-inch screens to media from the Blu-ray player and two USB ports. This all while enjoying the new Dakota leather seats with Nappa and Merino leather available optionally. The seats are finished in a diamond quilted style to bolster the exclusivity theme.
3. Engine technology
The new 6 Series offers two petrol engine derivatives, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger producing 190 kW and 400 N.m of torque and a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder motor also fitted with a twin-scroll turbocharger which results in 245 kW and 450 N.m of torque. Both petrol derivatives see the addition of a High Precision Injection system which increases pressure from 200 bar to 350.
Three diesel options are available, a 140 kW and 400 N.m 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit which adopts the two-stage TwinPower turbocharger system. The other two diesel motors manifest as inline six-cylinder units which also utilise TwinPower turbocharger technology. The motor in the 630d produces 210 kW and 650 N.m of torque while the flagship 640d models benefit from 250 kW and 700 N.m of torque.
For the first time, all 6 Series models now feature mild-hybrid technology through the fitment of a 48V starter-generator. Not only does the technology decrease the load experienced by the combustion engine, but also provide an instant increase in power when prompted. This technology both increase the overall performance of the 6 Series range and result in more efficient fuel consumption.
