As Volvo continues to move toward an all-electric future, its range of luxury SUVs is following the same trajectory. The C40 Recharge is an offshoot of the popular XC40 that ditches the squared-off rear profile and opts for a sloping roofline but how safe is this design?

Volvo has set the bar for luxury lifestyle SUVs with groundbreaking machines such as the XC90, XC60, and XC40. By trimming back the roofline of the XC40 the engineers at the Swedish automaker were able to bring a coupe-styled version to market called the C40. This stylish and compact fully electric crossover will easily service the needs of the urban family.

Released in South Africa in June 2023, the Volvo C40 Recharge is a lower, sleeker crossover from the Swedish automaker that brought us the XC40. Featuring a 78kWh battery, Volvo claims the C40 can do 400km on a charge and delivers 300kW and 660Nm but what of its safety measures?

The Volvo C40 Recharge scores an impressive 5 stars on the EURO NCAP, scoring 92% on adult occupancy, 89% on child occupancy and 70% for pedestrians. The suite of electric safety systems scored a further 89% during the test. With a score this high, consumers can be assured that the Volvo C40 Recharge is a very safe car.
