The name 'Omoda' is a portmanteau of the Latin root 'O' derived from oxygen, and 'MODA' which is derived from 'Modern' which works with the brand's focus on a modern and fashionable lifestyle for the youth that is dynamic and wants a tech loaded vehicle. It's pretty good for families too. The C5's sleek exterior and interior style are undoubtedly eye-catching. The cabin of the C5 is loaded with screens for vehicle diagnostics and infotainment with a pumping Sony sound system and ambient lighting system. The C5 is also safe with a full 5-star rating from ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program). Powering the C5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine churning out 115 kW and 230 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. The OMODA C5 is quite a well-rounded package, but is it reliable?
Service Plan and Warranty
It's needless to say that having a service plan and warranty is crucial. The C5 is backed by a 5-year /70 000km service plan, a 5-year /150 000km engine warranty, and a 10-year /1 million km warranty on the engine —quite a substantial warranty.
How reliable is the Omoda C5?
The Omoda C5 is still quite a new vehicle in the South African market and globally, as the vehicle launched earlier in 2023. Lately, we haven't heard of any issues in South Africa or over the pond. With this in mind, it's too early to determine if the vehicle is reliable or not because owners need to put the C5 through its paces in real-world scenarios. Also, more time needs to pass to see if any problems may crop up. That being said, the warranties on offer do give an indication of a robust product.
