High safety rating

Riding on a wave of popularity, Chery SA decided to launch the Omoda range in South Africa. The fashionable and tech-laden model stood head and shoulders above its peers, sporting features and tech only available in vehicles in much higher market segments. Many of these features are safety-related as this is an area that the Chinese manufacturer really wanted to highlight for consumers.

With so many fascinating features added as standard, we wanted to highlight the top three safety features that make the Omoda C5 so sought after.

Is the OMODA C5 a safe car?

1. Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS)

ADAS includes:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Autonomous emergency braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Automatic low/high beam switching.

2. Emergency Braking Assistance

If the vehicle's radar system detects an imminent collision with an approaching object, it will automatically apply the brakes. This can be directional, either forward and rearward.

3. Six Airbags

The Omoda has the normal array of forward driver, passenger, and side curtain airbags but makes the additions of a driver knee and driver/passenger separation airbags

Verdict

The Omoda is a very safe car, scoring a high 5 stars on the Euro NCAP. There are many more active and passive safety systems fitted to the Omoda but these are the top three that allow it to stand out in a very busy segment.
