The B40 Plus range features both diesel and petrol engines. The 2.0-litre petrol engine is turbocharged and produces 160kW and 320Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine produces 110kW and 350Nm. Transmission-wise, you can choose between a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed auto or an 8-speed auto. The four-wheel drive system is selectable with a mechanical transfer case and rear differential lock. It seems solid, but how reliable is it?
Service plan, warranty and reliability
The BAIC B40 Plus purchase price includes a 5-year /120 000 km warranty and an optional 4-year /60 000 km service plan. Looking at overseas forums and owner commentary, we can see that the B40 Plus is fairly reliable, with some reports of transmission issues but less than we can count on one hand, according to what we've researched. Besides this, the B40 Plus appears to be fairly reliable in South Africa since the vehicle's launch in 2021.
