There isn't anything overtly sexy or sporty about a van, yet the segment is big business in SA. Demand for these multi-purpose vehicles could be driven by our flourishing tourism industry, transport operators, larger-than-normal families, or the rather morbid funeral industry.

No matter the cause, vans are in demand locally, with an average of 300 sold monthly. Examining the NAAMSA figures for the last few months, we can see that brands such as Hyundai, Ford and Volkswagen all feature prominently, but what of the Mercedes-Benz V-Class?

If one takes a look at the last few months of Mercedes-Benz South Africa's official sales figures, it is plain to see that the V-Class may not be the most sold van, but we can say it is the most popular as the brand completely sold out of its SA allocation for 2024. If we look at our most read and commented-on articles about vans, the V-Class is the most popular of the lot as it generates the most interaction with consumers. We can, therefore, extrapolate and say that the V-Class is a very popular model for the brand.
