Buying a Car

The Audi Q5 is due for a facelift, and if everything goes according to plan, we will be seeing the latest model in SA in the second quarter of 2021. If you're looking to pick up a current model, now is a good time, as dealerships will be trying to move their stock from the showroom floor to make room for the upcoming model.

Currently, this is how much the Audi Q5 costs in SA:

Audi Q5 40TDI quattro, R791 500

Audi Q5 40TDI quattro Off-road Edition, R826 900

Audi Q5 40TDI quattro sport, R841 500

Audi Q5 40TDI quattro sport Black Edition, R871 600

Audi Q5 40TDI quattro sport S Line sports, R867 900

Audi Q5 45TFSI quattro, R843 000

Audi Q5 45TFSI quattro Off-road Edition, R878 400

Audi Q5 45TFSI quattro sport, R893 000

Audi Q5 45TFSI quattro sport Black Edition, R923 100

Audi Q5 TFSI quattro sport S line sports, R919 400

Which model to pick?

As you can see from the list, there are only two engines on offer; the 40TDI (a 2.0-litre turbodiesel) and the 45TFSI (a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol). Because I value range, I would opt for the diesel. The petrol is considerably quicker but diesel just lasts so much longer, plus the 40TDI is no slouch. For this reason, we're going to use the entry-level Audi Q5 40TDI quattro, at R791 500. It's also much more affordable than the petrol models.

AutoTrader's car finance calculator has the answer

AutoTrader's car finance calculator will do the maths for an instant answer. If you click on the finance calculator link, you'll see that there are different variables. Are you putting a deposit down? Trading in? Is there a residual? And over how many months will you be paying off your new premium German SUV? See below for more details:

This tool on our website is your new best friend if you're trying to work out how much your Q5 will cost you every month.

Option 1: No deposit, no residual, a 72-repayment period and a 7% interest rate

R13 494.29 per month, plus a whopping R180 088.78 worth of interest, bringing the total to R971 588! Plus, you haven't even factored in any other costs. We reckon you're going to be adding a few extras as well, and as we all know, Audi's extras don't come cheap. But let's see if we can bring down that repayment by putting down a bigger deposit - perhaps you sold your previous Q5 privately or you're trading in a different Audi altogether? Let's take a look...

Option 2: A R400k deposit, no residual, and a 60-month repayment period

It's looking better already! That deposit makes all the difference to your monthly repayment. Paying your Q5 off over 60 months instead of 72 decreases your interest considerably as well.

Our final answer?

The price you'll end up paying really depends on many factors. Our car finance calculator allows for a multitude of options that allows you to play around to your heart's content, whatever you can afford and whatever you want to purchase.
