How much are monthly repayments on a new Volkswagen T-Roc?

The Volkswagen T-Roc was welcomed into South Africa with open arms, and our readers can't seem to get enough of this stylish, Golf-based coupé-SUV. Do you think you may be able to afford one? It depends on a number of factors, but we've taken a few into consideration and played around with our online car finance calculator to bring you some answers.

Let's take a look at the local VW T-Roc model line-up first (these are base prices, without any extras added):

  • VW T-Roc 2.0TSI 140kW 4Motion Design: R 663 300

And now, let's take you to our AutoTrader Car Finance Calculator here.

As you can see, the calculator allows you to choose specific options from the drop-down menu; are you putting a deposit down, or trading in? Across how many months would you like to pay your new T-Roc off? With our current interest rate being quite low, now is a good time to buy a car. And also bear in mind that a lightly-used T-Roc (such a demo model, for example) will be considerably cheaper to buy than a brand-new out-of-the-box model.

Let's get started!

For the purpose of this example we are using the entry-level T-Roc 1.4TSI 110kW Design, priced at R 596 200.

With no deposit, no residual, 13.75% interest and a 72-month repayment period, this T-Roc is going to cost you a jaw-clenching, molar-grinding R12 205 a month. The interest amount then becomes a staggering R282 594  and the total instalment amount R 878 794. Ouch!

But, let's say you're trading in your VW Golf (or any car) with a book value of about R200 000 (or you're putting a deposit down of the same amount). Immediately your monthly payment amount for the new T-Roc comes down. Let's also opt to pay it off over a slightly more sensible 60-month period. Your monthly repayment will now be an easier-to-come-by R9 168 . Total interest paid is R153 857 and the total estimated repayment amount R550 057.

We invite you to head over to our Car Finance Calculator and play around with a few options. Buying used? Watch the 2021 T-Roc video Review here.
