The Isuzu mu-X is offered in two derivatives, both fitted with a 3.0-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel motor coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The combination results in 130 kW and 380 Nm of torque. However, while the one variant sends the power to the two rear wheels, the flagship offering delivers power to all four wheels for increased off-road capability.
While all other figures remain largely the same, the fuel consumption on the four-wheel-drive model is slightly higher than that of the two-wheel-drive option, burning 7.9 L /100 km instead of only 7.3 L / 100 km. While both models are similarly specified, one other area in which there is a significant difference is the price.
Formula
For the purpose of this article, we will be using a formula that not only gives a realistic result but is also the same as other articles of this type for easy comparison. In the purchase price field on the AutoTrader Car Finance Calculator, we enter the base price of each derivative without any optional extras specified. We then provide for a 10% deposit and select a 0% residual. We opted for a 72-month (5-year) payment period and set the interest rate to 12%.

Isuzu mu-X 3.0
The mu-X 3.0 is the two-wheel-drive derivative and is the entry point to Isuzu's SUV range. The purchase price of this model is R 675 300 which using the formula laid out above will result in an estimated monthly instalment of R 11 882,02. The estimated total Interest that would accumulate over the 72-month period is R 247 735,48. The total estimated instalments excluding the deposit are R 855 505,48.
Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4WD
The flagship four-wheel-drive model sees a slight increase in its base price to R 747 900. Following the same formula, we were able to calculate that the estimated monthly instalments would be R 13 159,43. The estimated total Interest that would accumulate over the 72-month period is R 274 368,97 while the total estimated instalments excluding the deposit will result in R 947 478,97.
Warranty and service plan
While the monthly instalment could be quite high for some, it does include a 5-year / 120 000km warranty and Isuzu Roadside Assistance. It is further bolstered by a 5-year / unlimited-kilometre anti-corrosion warranty and a 5-year / 90 000km service plan.
