Is the Mercedes-AMG E53 a good car?
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class range on its own already impresses with its premium finishes and performance. The Mercedes-AMG E53 range takes it up a notch on both fronts and as a result, is definitely a good car.
Who is the Mercedes-AMG E53 a good car for?
The Mercedes-AMG E53 is a good car for individuals or couples that want a vehicle that not only is able to take them from A to point B but also is exciting for spirited weekend drives.
Is the Mercedes-AMG E53 a good first car?
The sedan model, no longer available as new, is a lot more practical than its coupe and cabriolet siblings and a better choice for a first-time car buyer. However, all three models are focused on providing a sporty drive and as a result, might not be ideal for an inexperienced driver. We would recommend an advanced driving course if you are considering any of the Mercedes-AMG E53 models as your first car.
Is the Mercedes-AMG E53 a good family car?
Although the E53 coupe and cabriolet do offer four seats and respectable boot space, the passengers at the rear might feel a little cramped, especially over longer distances. We would recommend the E53 sedan if you have a family that regularly travels together.
Is there a Hybrid Mercedes-AMG E53?
While the Mercedes-AMG E53 range are not full-hybrid models, they do incorporate a 48V mild-hybrid system that assists the 3.0-litre, turbocharged, inline-6 petrol engine during the initial acceleration. The system is more focused towards powering the auxiliary items as well as reducing fuel consumption, however, the 16 kW and 250 Nm generated do bolster the performance ever-so-slightly.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer's opinion
Even though many of its styling add-ons are non-functional and frivolous, the driving experience is a lot more authentic. Most noticeable is the all-new, twin-turbo inline-6 engine with mild hybrid assistance, and not only for its power, either. It’s all in the way it sounds, with some genuine character permeating the cabin when the engine is running.

What is the Mercedes-AMG E53 like inside?
As can be expected from a product from Mercedes-AMG, the E53 incorporates premium materials and trim pieces on the interior. Some of that sporty character is also brought inside through carbon fibre inlays on the dashboard, door cards and centre console. As for spaciousness, the sedan is king, however, both the cabriolet and coupe offer ample space for four individuals for shorter trips.
Style
While for the most part the Mercedes-AMG E53 looks identical to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class range. The styling on the Mercedes-AMG range is bolstered through more sporty bumpers at the front and rear, a rear diffuser, and larger and more aggressive wheels. However, the styling is not over the top as the E53 range remains classy even with the more performance-oriented additions.
