Is the BMW M8 Competition a good car?

The M8 Competition is positioned in the higher tiers of BMW's product line-up and as such customers can expect premium materials, trims and fitment. In combination with the powerful engine and stylish design, the BMW M8 Competition is certainly a good car.

Who is the BMW M8 Competition a good car for?

The BMW M8 Competition is a good car for individuals that want a vehicle that can be both the epitome of luxury as well as an aggressive and focussed sportscar by merely changing your accelerator inputs.

Is the BMW M8 Competition a good first car?

The entire BMW M8 Competition range has hefty price tags, however, if that is not a hurdle, the model offers a lot of safety and standard assistance systems that will make it easy to operate for even the most inexperienced driver. We will, however, recommend an advanced driving course should the owner want to exploit the full power of the powertrain.

Is the BMW M8 Competition a good family car?

The BMW M8 Competition comes in a variety of body styles including a Gran Coupe which offers five seats and a large boot. Thus while two out of the three configurations might not meet the needs of a family, Gran Coupe should prove practical for customers.

Is there a Hybrid BMW M8 Competition?

At the time of writing this article, all three M8 derivatives come fitted with a 4.4-litre, turbocharged, V8 petrol engine producing 460 kW and 750 Nm of torque. No hybrid derivative or model has been introduced as of yet.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

My initial reaction after first driving the cabriolet I was surprise at its grin-inducing accelerative capabilities followed by a decided dollop of caution as the car felt rather large on the road, requiring a few minutes of careful piloting to get used to. Once acclimatised to the width and length of the M8, it becomes a confidence-inspiring GT-car, with the torque converter automatic, linear power delivery and supple ride quality (when in the right mode) making this a beautiful car to drive across the country.

Interior

What is the BMW M8 Competition like inside?

While you might expect the interior of the BMW M8 Competition to be a complete departure from its more affordable siblings down the range, this is not the case. Except for better upholstery stitching on the upholstery and slightly more premium materials and components used, the interior is very much the familiar high quality as has become expected from the premium automaker.

Style

The M8 Competition incorporates a more traditional approach to the kidney grill designs when compared to more modern stable mates. However, for this reason, it is still one of the best-looking models on offer from the German automaker. All three body styles share the same styling all the way to the A-pillar after which depending on the variant chosen a very different roofline and style appears. While for the most part, all three remain similar at the rear in terms of design, due to the different configurations some design differences occur, especially in how the top of the vehicle meets the boot lid. All-in-all the BMW M8 Competition manages to be both elegant and yet very sporty in its styling and has achieved good harmony between the two styles.
