The Volkswagen Amarok was the leader in the premium bakkie segment for many years, Sporting a high-end interior and features that elevated it above normal working-class machines, the Amarok was the choice for many who wanted a double cab for functional reasons but were after a somewhat more elegant driving solution.

Although the Amarok is a premium vehicle with a host of SUV-like features it was and still is a functional workhorse and can do all the things a work-hardened double cab can such as hauling loads and towing, but how much can it tow?

Yes, you can tow with the Amarok. The older Volkswagen Amarok has a load bed capacity of 850kg max and an unbraked trailer tow rating of 750kg max. The older model had a braked trailer rating of 3 tons while the new 2023 model can now carry a load bed capacity of 1.2 tons and has a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tons. This means that you can tow just about anything that can be legally towed with a passenger vehicle in South Africa, whether it's a small camping trailer or your fishing boat.
