The latest iteration of the BMW X6 was globally introduced in 2019. Including the flagship, BMW X6 M competition First Edition, model, the German automaker offers a total of eight derivatives. Customers also have a choice between a variety of both petrol and diesel engines. The entry-point or X6 xDrive30d and the midrange X6 M50d both come fitted with a 3.0-litre, turbocharged, inline-6 diesel engine.
While the xDrive30d offer customers 195 kW and 620 Nm of torque, BMW tweaked the engine in the M50d to deliver 294 kW and 760 Nm. The BMW X6 xDrive40i is also serviced by a 3.0-litre, turbocharged inline-6 engine, however, it is petrol. This variant is capable of 250 kW and 450 Nm while the next petrol in the line-up, the M50i is capable of producing 390 kW and 750 Nm from its 4.4-litre, turbocharged V8.
The BMW X6 M competition and BMW X6 M competition First Edition derivatives, which sits at the top tiers of the range, also comes fitted with a 4.4-litre, turbocharged petrol V8 motor, however, with the incorporation of clever technologies, BMW has managed to extract no less than 460 kW and 750 Nm from the powertrain.
But many BMW owners will tell you that they didn't necessarily buy it for the engine, but rather for the styling, comfort and tech features. Let us take a look at just a few optional extras on offer that will bolster your BMW X6.
1. Driving Assistant Professional
While you will get cruise control with braking functionality as well as collision and pedestrian alert as standard on the new X6. The German marque offers customers the optional Driving Assistant Professional package which will add lane keep, steering and lane control assist. In addition, customers will benefit from the traffic jam assistant and active side collision protection.
Drivers will also be happy to know that the optional package further incorporates rear collision warning, road priority warning and cross-traffic alert. Further benefits include lane change warning and emergency stop assistant as well as a reversing assistant which makes parking in tight spaces easier.
2. Connected Package Professional
Another helpful optional extra is the Connected Package Professional. This package bolsters the standard infotainment system by including a concierge service, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Connected Music for apps such as Spotify or BMW Music and Connected Navigation with apps like Waze or BMW Maps.
3. Head-up Display
With such a futuristic-looking vehicle such as the BMW X6, why not match it with the best technology. BMW offer customers the opportunity to specify a full-colour head-up display. This feature will project information such as the current speed, navigation directions, speed limit, telephone and entertainment lists, directly into your field of view on the windscreen.
This allows you to follow routes or even scroll between your favourite music tracks without having to look down at the digital instrument cluster or even the central infotainment screen. Not only does it help you keep your eyes on the road, but it also makes you feel like a fighter pilot with all the graphics changing as you travel along.
4. BMW Advanced Car Eye 2.0
This small optional item takes shape as what looks like an action camera mounted to the inside of the windscreen. While it does record full-HD footage, it does so much more. The camera is highly sensitive and will automatically start recording when it notices a possible collision is going to take place. This is to document what actually transpired on the day.
Not only that but the camera will also activate when it notices disturbances or extraordinary movements outside of the vehicle when it is parked. This is in order to capture footage of attempted break-ins which could assist the police in capturing the assailants. The camera records both what is happening in front and behind the vehicle.
5. BMW Laserlight
The optional BMW Laserlight package will see your BMW X6 fitted with brand-new headlamps. The new items come with a blue X signature and BMW Laser lettering on the inside of the cluster to separate itself from the standard units. The headlamps come with powerful technology which increases the high beam distance to 500 m, nearly double that of the standard items. This results in better visibility in dark conditions and bolsters safety.
6. BMW Iconic Glow
While this item is not as functional as the others on this list, it will set your BMW X6 apart from the rest and even the competition. BMW uses LED fibre technology to illuminate the iconic kidney grille of the front of the vehicle which results in a futuristic look. The lights can be set to come on when opening and closing the doors but can also be activated while you are driving.
