Buying a Car

1. When is the best time to buy a used car?

Nelan: "I would say there is no better or worse time of the year to buy a used car, the time is right when the customer has a need to purchase a car."

2. How many kilomteres is too high for a used car?

“For me, 120 000 km's is too high, after you reach mileage like that, a service on your turbo is usually necessary. That would be a major consideration for me, as the servicing costs are going to start getting high.”

3. Is mileage more important than age, or is age more important than mileage when purchasing a used car?

“I would say buy an older car with lower mileage, it means that the car won't have been driven as much. This likely means the engine will still be in good condition and the interior of the vehicle may still be pristine. So I would think about standard wear and tear on a vehicle when considering which car to purchase”.

4. Is it true that it’s cheaper to buy a car with cash?

“For me, if a customer is paying with cash, you will always receive a better deal but not all dealerships operate under the same principle”.

5. What are your final tips for anyone looking to buy a used car in Randburg?

“The first thing consumers should take into consideration is mileage as mileage is really important. The next step would be to find the car that suits your budget.

And finally, you should definitely have an exact ideal of what you're looking for. Do your research beforehand and have a clear picture in your mind of exactly what sort of car you want that will suit your lifestyle”.
