1. How many kilomtres is too high for a used car? 

“I’d say around 60,000km, I've had an 8-9-year-old car with that mileage, and it tells you the car wasn't owned by a daily driver. It was used on special occasions as it's like just over 10,000 a year which isn't a lot. I’d say that's what you're looking for especially for a premium car.”

 

2. Is mileage more important than age? 

“I would say mileage is more important. I think the mileage and appearance of the car should satisfy you, tell you if it's well maintained and looked after. You can usually sell them with a bit more confidence too, and it makes you as a salesman a bit more comfortable. 

If you're selling a car that's 100,000km that mileage makes you a bit more uneasy, personally it makes me feel better turning the ignition on and seeing 60,000km and not 160,000km.”

3. Is it cheaper to pay with cash?

“No, it's all about finance, we are looking for that dealer incentive from the bank. I’d rather have finance than cash because you're committed to the car, and they're committed to you. You can keep that client on your database and if they're happy there's a good chance they will come back to you with another finance deal unlike cash, people say cash is king, but I don't really agree with that.”

4. What are your top tips for anyone looking to buy a used car? 

“It depends on the person, are they on their own or did they come in with their family? These things tell me about which route I should take. Some people come in looking for a Ferrari but don't have the budget, I'm probably not going to get the keys to start the Ferrari and let them take a test drive, only to find out they're just looking. My best advice is for people to have realistic expectations and the dealership will help you as much as they can.”
