5 extras you should retrofit on a used Mahindra Scorpio

We investigate to find the top five extras you should retrofit on a used Mahindra Scorpio whether it be the S10 or S11 range.

Buying a Car

You will be forgiven for mistaking a Mahindra Scorpio S10 model with the S11 range as visually the changes are minuscule. For the latest model, which launched in 2020, the automaker focussed on the engine and drivetrain as well as comfort features on the interior such as the fitment of a larger and more capable infotainment system.

If you are considering a used Mahindra Scorpio model on AutoTrader, you should know that the S11 range consists of two derivatives only, one with a 4X4 capable drivetrain and the other only powering the rear wheels. The power comes from a 2.2-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel motor coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The combination results in 103 kW and 320 Nm of torque, ample for the morning commute or even the occasional off-road expedition.

Both S11 variants are identically specified in terms of comfort and safety equipment, however, if you want to add a few extras for added functionality or just styling, Mahindra offers a comprehensive list. Here is our pick of five extras you should retrofit to a used model.

1. Bumper / Bullbar

For the off-roading enthusiast, Mahindra offers two options for a bullbar configuration. You can either specify a bullbar only which not only protects the bumper area of the vehicle but extends to the headlamps too. For those looking for something a bit more aggressive, a wrap-around steel bumper is also available which acts as both the bumper and a bull bar and also helps in protecting the headlamps.

2. Tow bar

Similar to the front and the available configurations, customers have the option of fitting a tow bar that is less intrusive on the clean rear bumper styling. The unit is still capable and will allow customers to hitch items as small as bicycle carriers all the way up to caravans. However, Mahindra also offers a more rugged solution which not only allows for towing items but is also capable of withstanding harder use and even smaller knocks and bumps.

3. Nudge bar

If a full bullbar or steel bumper setup is a bit much for your needs, Mahindra also sells a variety of nudge bars. While the nudge bar might not offer the same protection as the bullbar or steel bumper configurations, it will still add a little strength and offer space if you want to add aftermarket spotlights. Available in either stainless steel or a mild-steel black finish, it will either blend well with the vehicle's body colour or create the contrast you might want upfront.

4. Reverse camera

While you can expect your S10 Scorpio to offer rear park distance control, you might want to consider the optional reverse camera. After it is installed it works alongside the standard park distance control system in providing the driver with a clear image when reversing and indicating when they come too close to an obstacle behind the vehicle that could cause damage. Note that the S11 Scorpio model comes fitted with a reverse camera as standard.

5. Seat covers

While some owners might buy the Mahindra Scorpio for its space, seven seats or reliability, others opt for the SUV because of its off-road capabilities. And whether you are going to tackle the rough stuff or use the vehicle for the daily school run, you might want to protect the seats from getting soiled or dirty unnecessarily. For this Mahindra offers seat covers in a variety of styles to match the interior and exterior trim.
