There have been meaningful changes in this new Swift that will attract an aspiring motorist. With Suzuki's track record for longevity and reliability, you're in for a good ownership experience. It's been a year since we witnessed the unveiling of the Swift in Japan, and it's here on our shores. While spending some time with it, we found three things we absolutely loved about it.
1. New Engine, Still lightweight, Still frugal
The new Swift uses a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder non-turbo petrol engine. This mill makes 60kW and 112Nm, and power is couriered to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission. Suzuki claims this powertrain consumes 4.4 L/100km of fuel, and to help with fuel savings, there's an Auto Stop/Start system. Thanks to the HEARTECT platform, the Swift is still lightweight at 917 kg at kerb weight but holds its own on the road.
2. Great standard safety across the range
Six airbags, ABS and EBD, Brake Assist, ESP, Isofix, Rear Seatbelt Reminders and Three Point Seatbelts All Round. This is found across all grades of the Swift from GL to GLX. It's impressive that you'll find all this in a car at this price point. Speaking of.
3. Pricing
The new Swift is comprehensively specced at a pretty low price point. The purchase price includes a 2-year /30 000km service plan and 5-year /200 000km warranty, which is good value for money.
