By now you must have heard of the AutoTrader #WinAnyCar competition where you stand a chance to win any car on our site, to the value of R200 000. If not, you'd best head on over to AutoTrader #WinAnyCar to see what it's all about.
In short, you need to take to social media and post a selfie of you with your car (or a dream car you wished you owned) During lockdown, it might be easier to use an existing photo you have already taken, then get creative with it. The more creative, the better! Add a screenshot of any AutoTrader advert, it can be the car you would choose if you win (If the car you want to buy is more than R200k, AutoTrader will contribute R200k towards the purchase should you be the lucky winner) and then tag @AutoTraderSA in the post and include the hashtags #Carfie and #WinAnyCar. You can post to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

Martin Pretorius
1. BMW 1 Series 120d Coupe M Sport Auto
"Some might argue the case for a 135i in the same body shape, but the first-generation BMW 120d is probably the best, used buy in the range. They’re spectacularly light on fuel, nice to drive with the automatic gearbox, and pretty nippy as well.
The styling hasn’t aged badly, either, and the tasteful extras on this example add a mountain of street cred. This example has a whole lot of extras, and its mileage is still at a level where maintenance shouldn’t be too excessive. If you don’t need to carry more than one passenger and enjoy driving, this affordable BMW should tick all the boxes."
2. BMW Z4 sDrive23i Sports-Auto
"Possibly the prettiest of all the Z4s, and the only one with a folding hardtop roof, this 2010-model example has 148 000 km on its odo, and undoubtedly enjoyed a pampered life thus far.
There’s also the bonus of a classic, non-turbo BMW inline-6 engine under the bonnet, with the fun quotient helped along by a low centre of gravity and rear-wheel drive. This one isn’t for families, mind you - there’s room for a driver and one passenger, and if you put anything in the boot, the roof has to stay closed. But for those sunny days on a winding road with the wind in your hair, this could be just the ticket."
3. 2014 Suzuki Jimny 1.3
"I love off-roading, but I have neither the parking space nor the need for a large overlander. That’s where this little Suzuki Jimny comes in: For 199 950, this example has only 61 000 km on the clock, and while it won’t ever go fast, it will go anywhere, including under my carport…
If this one were mine, I’d immediately give it larger wheels and tyres for more ground clearance, and maybe some spannerwork under the bonnet to help it get to the end of the tar road a bit quicker. Just like my other suggestions, the Jimny is also essentially a two-seater - especially so if you’re carrying anything more than a single camping chair and a small, soft cooler bag."

1. 2013 Volkswagen Cross Polo 1.6TDI
"This Cross Polo from 2013 caught my eye because it’s a 1.6-litre diesel, with claimed consumption of a mere 4.3 litres per 100 km! With a top speed of 186 km/h and 77kW of power you can be assured of a good mix of fuel efficiency and power, and Polos aren’t expensive to service, nor are their parts expensive. The Cross Polo’s raised ground clearance makes this a winner wherever you go. Red also happens to be my favourite colour. This model from 2013 has only 64 804 km on the clock."
2. 2018 Opel Adam 1.0T Jam
"If you want a potent but safe, ultra-stylish city slicker, this Opel Adam 1.0T Jam is just the ticket. It’s also luxurious, extremely well-specced, solidly built, and has six airbags. Its standard IntelliLink infotainment system works a charm. (Remember, the Adam has only three doors so it’s better suited to trendy couples than small families. )This particular Adam is a relatively new 2018 model, with only 11 000 km on the clock. With a spicy 85kW and 170Nm, this is your best alternative to a previous-generation Audi A1!"
3. 2013 Audi A5 Sportback 2.0T
"Another red car makes my list! This fiery Audi A5 Sportback with its 2.0-litre petrol engine offers a whole lot of grunt for the price: 155 kiloWatts worth! It will reach a 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds and safety spec includes 6 airbags as standard. A slightly older 2013 model with 95 000 km on the odo, but if it’s been well-looked after, you won’t be sorry. Audi’s got a great aftersales reputation too."

1. 2020 Kia Picanto 1.0 Style Auto
"I love the styling on the Kia Picanto, You get a lot of bang for your buck if you are looking for small reliable transport that you can drive over long distances. Here's the best bit - this one is brand new with only delivery mileage on the clocks!"
2. 2001 Porsche Boxster S (986)
"Who doesn’t want a Porsche!? Yes you can get one for R200k, that's a lot of car and a brilliant driving time for practically nothing. You also get Porsche reliability with it - provided it's had the known, little gremlins addressed."
3. 2016 Renault Megane Hatch 97kW Turbo GT Line
"I've always loved the Megane. You can get a turbo GT Line model and just enjoy life behind the wheel of this little French number. Don’t worry about spares and service, Renault SA is fully equipped to help you out if you need it."
Chad Lückhoff
1. 2008 Porsche Boxter (987)
"Yes, I know, another Porsche and while this one squeaks in over the R200 000 limit, I'd happily add the outstanding R28 000 to get behind the wheel of the second-generation Boxter. This model may not be an S model but it still features a 2.7-litre flat-six engine which is good for 176 kW, making it good for a 0 - 100 km/h sprint time of 6.2-seconds. Best bit? This one is a manual!"
2. 2006 Jaguar XK 4.2
"Go big or go home! This 4.2-litre V8 is as close as you're going to get to an Aston Martin DB7 for the money. The rear-drive British coupe produces 221 kW for a sprint time of 5.5-seconds. It's a stunning GT car that still turns heads to this day. Yes, there will be a fuel bill and yes, it will need repairs sooner or later, but when it works, what a glorious thing it will be! (it's also worth noting that I'm a sucker for punishment)"
3. 2011 Birkin S3 Superlight
"This one is the wild-card. Nothing provides a more visceral driving experience than the renowned Lotus 7 design. This locally manufactured Birkin 7 is based on the same design but utilizes a more modern, more powerful Toyota 4A-GE 20-valve silver top engine and a locally-supported GoTech management system. It weighs as much as a fart and goes like stink! What more could you want from a track-ready toy!?"
