Fatigue detection "Rest Assist"
The Rest Assist system, also called Driver Fatigue Detection, comes standard on Golf models. This helpful system intelligently measures your pedal and steering wheel use, as well as transverse acceleration and senses fading concentration levels. This system comes particularly in handy when undertaking a long journey because it will ensure the driver stays alert and it reduces the risk of getting into an accident.
Why does the Golf need Rest Assist?
Sleepy drivers getting into accidents is becoming a common problem on the roads. It is also continuously evaluating the speed of the car against traffic signals on the road and calculates when it may be time to take a break.
How does Rest Assist warn the driver?
Once the system detects the slip in the driver's concentration, it will alert the driver with an acoustic signal, a visual message on the instrument cluster and by means of a vibration in the steering wheel.
Ultimately the choice to stop and take a break rests with the driver as the Driver Fatigue Detection System is only there to alert the driver that he/she needs to take a break. Although, it is imperative to realise that stopping to take a break is in the best interest of not only the driver but also the passengers and moreover other road users.
