What is the Tayron exactly?
The first-generation Tayron was originally a Chinese market nameplate produced by FAW-Volkswagen since 2018, but now, with this second generation, it's a global nameplate. The second-generation Tayron is a premium-spec 7-seater family SUV positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, replacing the Tiguan Allspace. This generation of the Tayron will be engineered and built in Wolfsburg, Germany, with production also in Mexico and China. The market model we'll get hasn't yet been confirmed, so stay tuned.
The Tayron is set to raise the benchmark in its class for comfort, safety and particularly in this day and age, digital innovation.
Inside and out
Outside, the Tayron sports a front fascia similar to the Tiguan, akin to a cheeky yet confident smile. The longer wheelbase is evident in the side profile. The rear has a strong shoulder line, with the taillights following that strong body crease. Additional exterior features include body cladding and the IQ: matrix lighting arrays, light bars, and an illuminated Volkswagen badge in the front.
From our current images and information, the Tayron utilises a 12.9-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and premium-quality interior trimmings and finishes. It's all neatly laid out, and there's minimal negative space.
Powertrain
The Tayron will be propelled by a 1.4 TSI petrol engine making 110kW / 250Nm and a 7-speed DSG transmission.
Derivatives
Two derivatives will be available, namely the Life and R-Line.
The Life variant will be available as a 5-seater only, but offers features such as LED headlights, ADAS systems like Park Assist, 9 airbags, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Traffic Alert, to name a few, in the safety department. Other features include three-zone automatic air conditioning, 10 Colour Ambient Lighting and multifunction driving experience control.
The R-Line variant comes kitted with R Design exterior tweaks. In addition to the Life variant, you'll receive LED Plus Headlights, Varenna Leather Seats with heating and massage functionality, 30-Colour Ambient lighting and 19-inch Conventry wheels.
Pricing for these derivatives will be announced closer to the launch date.
