Top 5 BMW i3 accessories you didn't know you needed

The BMW i3 is South Africa’s first taste of all-electric mobility from the Bavarian brand. We take a look at 5 accessories you didn’t know that you needed when specifying your i3.

Automotive News

In a country that has been slow to adopt electric mobility, sales for the all-electric BMW i3 have been relatively slow, however, with vehicles of this type becoming more common going forward, and with a recent update allowing for added driving range within all i3 derivatives, it may now hold added appeal for some.

The eco-conscious among us will find solace in knowing that the factory in which the i3 is produced only uses renewable energy while 25% of the materials used on the interior of the i3 are renewable too. For those convinced by the i3's eco-credentials, we have found 5 accessories that we think are well worth specifying on your new BMW i3.

1.Upholstery- R29 000

There are three options when it comes to what BMW calls the 'Interior World's’ available. The first is called design Loft, the second design Lodge and finally, the design Suite. It is the design Lodge that suits the i3 best though and the standard woollen cloth and natural leather trim combination in Solaric Brown looks fantastic. There is the option of four interior trim finishes, namely Oak dark matt wood, Eucalyptus matt, Andesite Silver matt and Electronic matt. The Eucalyptus matt finish is perhaps the best suited to the Lodge interior finish.

2.Sunroof with electric sliding function- R14 300

With the natural interior finish secured, allowing natural light into the cabin of the vehicle would contribute to an airy feeling inside. The one-touch slide and lift function of the sunroof allows the user to control how much air enters the cabin while an integrated wind deflector assists with lowering wind noise.

3.Hi-Fi Loudspeaker System Harmon Kardon- R9 300

This interior audio upgrade features a 360-watt amplifier and 12 speakers as well as two centrally located subwoofers, ensuring a fantastic audio experience inside.

4.Driving Assist Plus- R14 800

The semi-autonomous system includes adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go functionality as well as traffic jam assistant. Also included in the system is the approach control and personal warning functionality with city braking functionality, all assisting you when on-the-go.

5.BMW Wallbox Original- approximately  R25 000

With many electric car owners being encouraged to treat their vehicles as they do their smartphone, overnight charging is the best option. The BMW Wall box offers a sleek looking and faster-charging solution with single and three-phase technology along with an integrated charging cable.
