1. Rubicon features the Wrangler's largest tyres 

Out of the box, the Rubicon variant has always been the most capable Wrangler. It has a list of improvements over the standard Wrangler of which include a 4:1 gear ratio, selectable front and rear locking differentials, and an electronic disconnecting sway bar. There’s also rock sliders, taller fender flares, and wait for it, the tallest tyres ever fitted to a production Wrangler.

Rolling on BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2s in 33-inch diameter (a full inch taller), these tyres are more comfortable and quieter than the outgoing mud-terrain tyres. The increase in diameter allows you greater ground clearance. These tyres are said to “grip tremendously well off-road while behaving much the same as a standard all-season tyre on-road.”

 

2. Operating the soft top

Jeep has utilized several soft-top designs over the Wrangler’s lifespan but never has the conversion from close to open and vice versa felt particularly seamless. This has changed with the 2018 model as the latest Wrangler introduced a new soft-top mechanism that will shock anyone who has struggled with previous setups. Stowing the top can be done in about a minute or less. Putting it back takes a little longer but if you follow the same steps in reverse, your roof will be secured in no time.

 

3. Manual transmission lives on

One of the things Jeep has retained from all of its best old school parts is the manual gearbox. The new Wrangler is available with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, however, Jeep re-tuned its six-speed manual gearbox to pair with the 3.0-litre V6 engine.

This manual gearbox will only be offered with this powertrain but it is said that enthusiasts will appreciate the new linkage, smoother shifts, and reduced vibration with the updated gearbox.
