The 9-Minute Charge: BYD’s Flash Charger

In March 2026, BYD officially declared war on range anxiety by launching its 1 500kW ultra-fast Flash Chargers alongside the 2nd Generation Blade Battery.

This technology represents a quantum leap in EV infrastructure, capable of replenishing a vehicle from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes under optimal conditions. For context, this is nearly three times the power of a Tesla V4 Supercharger, effectively making the recharge as fast as a traditional petrol stop.

The secret lies in BYD’s "Flash-Through" ion technology and a new Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate (LMFP) chemistry. These batteries are designed to handle massive current surges (a 10C charging rate) without the heat degradation that typically plagues high-speed charging. Furthermore, the 2nd Gen Blade Battery has solved the winter problem; even in temperatures as low as -30°C, the charge time increases by roughly three minutes.

By the end of 2026, the company plans to deploy 20 000 Flash Charging stations in China, with a global rollout targeting Europe, Brazil, and Thailand shortly after. To avoid overwhelming local power grids, each station acts as a "battery for the battery," using on-site energy storage to draw power slowly from the grid and discharge it instantly to the car.
