Verdict
The mid-year statistics show that, despite tighter household budgets, South Africa's appetite for new vehicles remains strong. The passenger segment is seeing aggressive guard-shuffling, with Chinese manufacturers (Chery, GWM/Haval, Omoda, and Jetour) mounting an unrelenting assault on legacy brands. However, with foundational pillars like the VW Polo Vivo and Toyota Hilux maintaining their iron grip on the top two steps of the podium, the old guard isn’t giving up ground without a fight.
