Onwards to Aldo Scribante! - Toyota GR Cup - Round 4 Pre Race Talk

It's time to head to the Eastern Cape for the GR Cup Media Challenge 2026. Aldo Scribante is up!

It's that time again, race weekend is afoot! This time, we're heading to the Aldo Scribante Raceway all the way in the Eastern Cape!

The last few rounds have been a roller coaster, so hopefully things will come to a calm this time, and I can have a decent round out.

About Aldo Scribante Raceway

Situated in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. This is another old-time circuit, and one of the circuits in the Championship, where the layout hasn't exactly changed since its inception. Aldo Scribante opened its gates in 1975, named after the legendary Team Boss. It took Algoa Motorsports Club around 14 years to raise the funds to build this track, with some help from General Motors and Ford at the time. This was significant since there was plenty of manufacturing in the area, so it made sense to have a racetrack near the base of operations. The Algoa Motorsports Club president at the time, Louis Krittinger, communicated with Aldo Scribante, and after a good chat, Aldo had promised financial backing for the circuit. Considering Aldo made his money in the construction industry, this was a sure-fire deal.

The track has a fair few corners that need a bit of patience, but you'll also catch a fair bit of speed too. The corners are pretty nicely cambered too but this does look like a narrower circuit. We will be racing in the clockwise direction.

My experience and the event setup

I have not raced at this circuit before, so I need to familiarise myself with the simulator. After a few sessions, the circuit flow feels lovely, and you can pick up some nice speed. One thing to maybe be concerned about is potential windy conditions since we're not far from the sea. Hearing from others who have raced at this circuit, despite the colder temperatures currently, it is apparently harsh on tyres. It's perfect timing as we're due for a new set after this round. Having my tyres miss out on the action in Round 2 will bring me some favour here, since I'll have more tread left than my competitors.

I was seriously off pace in the previous round and fell ill at the same time, only shaking it off at the time of writing this very article. Another thing is to go in with a clear head and slate. While the previous rounds didn't go according to plan, Aldo Scribante will now have a chance to get back into the groove. At the end of it all, while this may be a championship, I'm also here to enjoy myself at the same time. So, a new approach is being taken: be less intense about it all and feel the drive.
