The Omoda C4 has officially made its production debut. Here is everything South African buyers need to know about the newest member of the Omoda stable.
A new design
Omoda has ditched the organic curves seen on the popular C5 for a design language they call "Cyber-Mecha." It’s a sharp, industrial look inspired by sci-fi and robotics.
Exterior: The front end is dominated by "O-Universe" lighting—LED arrays shaped like lightning bolts.
Cabin: Inside, the C4 is unashamedly aimed at Gen Z. It features a high-definition 2.5K Snapdragon-powered screen designed to handle gaming and content creation in addition to more traditional functions.
Visual flair: The centre console feels like a cockpit, featuring an aviation-inspired red cage over the start button—a bit of theatre that South African buyers, who traditionally love a bit of "bling" and tech, will likely appreciate.
Engine options
1.5-litre turbo petrol
This will be the bread-and-butter of the range, aimed squarely at the sub-R400k market currently dominated by the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Haval Jolion.
Performance: A familiar 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing roughly 115kW and 230Nm of torque.
Transmission: A CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with 9 stepped ratios, designed to prioritise fuel efficiency in urban traffic.
Local Relevance: This is the safe bet for those who want a futuristic-looking car but aren't ready to change their driving or maintenance habits. It will likely carry Omoda’s trademark 10-year / 1-million-km engine warranty.
SHS-H (Super Hybrid System)
This is the "Goldilocks" option for South Africans. On April 25–26, Omoda is putting this specific system through a high-stakes endurance marathon to prove its efficiency.
The Tech: A 1.5T hybrid-dedicated engine paired with a dual-motor electric system. Total system output is a punchy 165 kW and 295 Nm.
Self-Charging: Unlike the plug-in Omoda C7, the C4’s standard hybrid system (HEV) doesn't need a wall socket. It recovers energy through braking—perfect for South African cities where public charging is still a luxury.
Efficiency: Expect a real-world fuel consumption figure around 4.9L/100 km. In a country with petrol at R25/litre, a theoretical range of 1 000 km per tank is a massive selling point.
Omoda E4 (Full Electric)
While the petrol and hybrid models will lead the charge, a full-electric variant is confirmed for global markets, with a South African business case currently being finalised.
The Power: A 61 kWh battery driving a 150 kW front-mounted motor.
Range: Approximately 430 km (WLTP).
The Catch: Given SA’s current import taxes on EVs, this will be the most expensive in the lineup, likely positioned as a "boutique" choice for those with home solar setups.
Coming to South Africa
Omoda South Africa has confirmed that the Omoda C4 will be launched locally in the second half of 2026.
Positioning: It will slot in below the C5, acting as the new entry point to the brand.
Pricing rumours: While official local pricing is under wraps, early estimates suggest it could target the R300 000 to R400 000 bracket, making it a tempting proposition.
Warranty: Expect the 1-million-km / 10-year engine warranty to remain a staple of the package.
With Omoda recently hitting the one-million-user milestone globally, the C4 looks set to be the high-volume model that cements the brand's footprint in SA.
