When the brand-new Fronx joins the brand's expanding lineup of SUVs, local Suzuki fans will soon have an abundance of options. Suzuki has been highly successful of late, as their range of economic cars appeals to South Africans from all walks of life.
At their world debuts at the Auto Expo 2023 in India, the new Suzuki Jimny and the new Fronx shared the spotlight - and AutoTrader was there. The Fronx will be introduced in South Africa towards the end of this year (Suzuki reckons quarter 3, hopefully), but has already launched in India towards the end of April 2023.

The Fronx is one of the first entirely new models to be created using Suzuki's new 'Crafted Futurism' design language, but it is based on the same platform as the Suzuki Swift and Baleno. Both cars offer great value and driver involvement, so the new Fronx should be a hit with drivers of all ages. The suspension, steering, and general driving performance of the new Suzuki Fronx is said to be tailored towards customers who prefer an engaging drive.
The new model features a commanding upright front grille, a roofline that slopes downward like a coupé, and LED head- and taillights, the latter of which are joined by an uninterrupted LED lightbar that spans the tailgate, similar to the design on its larger stablemate, the new Grand Vitara (and near-identical twin from Toyota, the Urban Cruiser) which launched last week. The Fronx's fashionable appearance is completed with large wheels, fresh exterior hues, and crystal-effect daytime running lamps. It is smaller than the Vitara and Grand Vitara, but bigger than the Ignis.
In India, the compact crossover comes with a range of high-end technologies such as a Head-Up Display with Turn-by-turn navigation, 360 view camera, a wireless smartphone charger, a 22.86cm (9”) HD Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Specs for the local market have not been revealed. Owners in India can pair their Fronx with their smartphones/smartwatches to activate certain functions remotely.
The Fronx is fitted with Suzuki's cutting-edge HEARTECT structure for passive safety, along with a wide range of active safety features. In India, the safety kit includes six airbags, 3-point seat belts, ESP with Hill-Hold Assist & Roll Over Mitigation, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages, among others.
As for powertrain options, chances are we'll be getting the 1.4-litre naturally aspirated engine which does duty in die Baleno and Starlet, or one of these below (but we're really hoping for the 1.0-litre turbo):
The Indian market will have a choice of two engines; a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder or a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder. The South African powertrain is yet to be decided on and it's possible that neither of these engines will make their way into the local Fronx (but the name will, sadly). - Chad Luckhoff, AutoTraderSA
