A new performance era
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé transitions the brand’s high-performance heritage into the electric era. Built on the all-new, high-performance AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture), this all-electric series-production sports car integrates advanced drivetrain engineering and active chassis technologies to deliver continuous, repeatable power and sharp driving dynamics.
Buyers can choose between two models at launch: the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupé and the flagship Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupé. At the heart of the vehicle is an innovative electric drive concept featuring three axial flux motors developed by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary YASA. The setup mounts two motors to the rear axle and one to the front axle.
Unlike conventional electric motors, where the electromagnetic flux runs perpendicular to the rotation axis, axial flux motors feature flux running parallel to the rotation axis. This design utilises thin, disc-like rotors that enclose the stator, creating an ultra-compact footprint. The front motor is just 9 cm wide, while the rear units measure 8 cm each.
This technology delivers higher continuous power and torque than traditional electric motors, allowing drivers to execute demanding performance manoeuvres repeatedly without power degradation.
GT 63 4-Door Coupé 4MATIC+: Generates a peak output of 860 kW during AMG Launch Control at an 80% State of Charge (SoC).
GT 55 4-Door Coupé 4MATIC+: Delivers a potent 600 kW.
Performance Metrics: The flagship variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds, reaches 200 km/h in 6.4 seconds, and achieves a top speed of 300 km/h when equipped with the optional Driver’s Package.
To optimise efficiency under low-load conditions, a specialised Disconnect Unit (DCU) automatically decouples the front booster motor within milliseconds, reducing drag losses. Both variants maintain a combined energy consumption rating between 21.0 and 17.8 kWh/100 km, resulting in 0 g/km of CO2 emissions.
F1-inspired battery and ultra-fast charging
The AMG High Performance Electric Battery (AMG HP.EB) leverages engineering expertise from Formula 1 and the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar. The 800-volt system relies on 2,660 tall, slim cylindrical cells housed within 18 laser-welded plastic modules. Their unique 105 mm by 26 mm geometry minimises the distance from the cell core to the outer surface, maximising heat dissipation.
The battery features a lightweight, highly conductive aluminium cell housing, a full-tab design to slash internal resistance, and a specialised NCMA (Nickel/Cobalt/Manganese/Aluminium) chemistry with a silicon anode. This combination yields an energy density of over 298 Wh/kg at the cell level and supports potential future WLTP ranges well over 700 kilometres.
Charging Performance is rated at 600 kW, and you can replenish a range of around 460 kilometres in about 10 min. From 10% to 80% SoC charging should take around 11 minutes. Battery durability and charging efficiency are managed by an advanced direct cooling system. An electrically non-conductive, oil-based, high-tech coolant flows around each cell via an integrated Central Coolant Hub (CCH).
This central hub manages a 20 kW cooling system to sustain battery performance during aggressive track driving or ultra-fast charging. For global versatility, the system can switch to a 400-volt charging architecture and supports five regional fast-charging standards (CCS2, GB/T, CHAdeMO, CCS1, and NACS).
Intelligently integrated safety and rigidity
The vehicle’s body is composed of an intelligent material mix of aluminium, steel, and fibre-reinforced composites to ensure high torsional rigidity and reduced weight. The high-voltage battery is centrally integrated into the e-skateboard structure. Its protective safety box encloses the cell modules and an in-house developed Battery Management System (BMS), utilising virtual mathematical sensors to monitor internal cell temperatures in real time. The battery structure actively absorbs and dissipates impact forces, serving as a structural component to meet strict internal Mercedes-Benz safety standards.
Dynamic chassis control and AMG RACE ENGINEER
The fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system distributes power through high-performance electric drive units. Driving dynamics are managed by the AMG RACE ENGINEER, controlled via three central rotary switches on the centre console:
Response Control: Tunes the accelerator pedal response from comfortable to aggressive.
Agility Control: Varies torque distribution to influence cornering behaviour from neutral handling to controlled oversteer (available in Sport/Sport+/Race modes with ESP off).
Traction Control: Offers a 9-stage slip adjustment system derived from the AMG GT R and Black Series.
The chassis utilises a multi-link design at both axles, featuring lightweight, forged-aluminium links at the front to minimise unsprung mass. Standard equipment includes the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL air suspension featuring semi-active, interconnected hydraulic roll stabilisation in place of traditional anti-roll bars. An 8.2-litre pressure reservoir enables rapid vehicle height adjustments to optimise aerodynamics and driving range.
Standard active rear-axle steering alters the rear wheel angle by up to 6 degrees. At speeds below 80 km/h, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels, effectively virtually shortening the wheelbase for enhanced agility and a tighter turning radius. Above 80 km/h, the wheels steer in the same direction (up to 1 degree) to virtually extend the wheelbase, enhancing high-speed stability.
Authentic V8 character and active aerodynamics
To appease traditional enthusiasts, the AMGFORCE S+ drive program delivers an immersive V8 sensory experience. It combines a patent-pending acoustic profile based on the AMG GT R with haptic-immersive feedback, including simulated gear changes with traction interruption. A real-time mixing system utilises over 1,600 granular sound loops to dynamically match acoustics to acceleration, coasting, and vehicle states (including heartbeat-like pulses upon locking and unlocking).
This is complemented by a central driver display configured in a classic V8-style central-tube layout. Finally, high-speed stability is managed via active aerodynamics, which include two active AEROKINETICS venturi flow elements beneath the car and an active AEROKINETICS rear diffuser.
Price
The local pricing for the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupé and the flagship Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupé will be revealed at the local introduction of the model range, but Mercedes-AMG claims the pricing will be in line with the predecessors.
