It's been many years since Mercedes-AMG has released a vehicle as controversial as the new W206 C63. In a bold move, Mercedes-AMG has elected to downscale the engine in the notorious C63 further, moving from a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 in the W204, to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the W205, to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder in this new model. To say that the fanbase is triggered, would be an understatement.

The new W206 Mercedes-AMG C63 releases soon to the local public and time will tell if the market accepts it or if its popularity will take a knock. We've had early access to the vehicle and can confirm that it is vastly improved as a performance vehicle, even if some of the character that was provided by the V8 powertrain was lost along the way.
We got up close and personal with the model ahead of its launch and revelled in the amount of new tech that can be found in both powertrain, drivetrain, and operating system. you can take a closer look at it in our quick review here.
After which, we then set off to Kynsna to showcase the vehicle to the South African public for the first time. We entered the Simola Hillclimb and pitted the C63 against supercars and sportscars alike, finishing 2nd in the NEV class and 5th overall in the Street and Supercar category, pipping some more prominent makes and models in the process. If you'd like to see how the car performed, watch the video here.
Not much is known about the local trim specifications yet, but we do know that South Africa will only be getting the C63 S derivative.
