Most compact Maserati
The Maserati brand has a long and illustrious history of producing sports, GT, supercars and racing machines, however, the global push towards SUVs products such as the Levante have helped the brand both survive and find new customers. Recently, the Italian firm revealed a new SUV, called the Grecale, a mid-size model measuring 4 846 mm long, a wheelbase of 2 901 mm, a height of 1 670 mm, and a width of 2 163 mm. For those wondering, that makes it a similar size to the likes of the Porsche Cayenne, BMW's X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE, for example.
Aesthetically, the Grecale has taken its styling cues from the latest MC20 sports car up front while the brand claims the rear end was inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT. The interior is characterised by a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen, an additional 8.8-inch screen for other vehicle controls as well as a third screen for rear passengers. The system is run by the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) as part of Maserati Connect.
Model range
The Grecale range consists of four derivatives, the entry-level GT which features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a mild hybrid system that produces 224kW of power. Next up is the Modena model, which uses the same four-cylinder engine and mild hybrid system but produces 246kW. The flagship within the range is the Trofeo model, which features a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 395kW. There will also be an all-electric version called the Grecale Folgore which will feature a 105 kWh battery pack and 400-volt technology.

When will it arrive?
At the time of writing, there was no word from Maserati locally that confirmed the introduction of this model, however, there are right-hand drive versions, so an introduction towards the end of 2022, which has been confirmed for the UK market, looks likely for South Africa too.
