The Hyundai Venue in standard form is a compact crossover SUV that has been a top seller in South Africa for some time. Recently, my colleague Ané attended the launch of the refreshed version of the Venue which you can read here.

The exterior of the vehicle is bolder now with a revised front and rear fascia. Not only that but there are three spec levels to choose from and two different engines in the form of a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder and a petrol engine and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. As far as boot space goes, you have 343-litres of capacity to play around with.
A Cargo Version?
We were just as surprised as you to hear of this new model, however, Hyundai is no stranger to making commercial vehicle variants of its passenger vehicles. The Cargo is based on the entry-level Venue 1.2 Motion that has been converted to a light commercial vehicle with a 500kg payload and an added benefit of VAT-registered businesses being able to claim back VAT on the purchase.
The Cargo is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 61 kW of power and 115 Nm of torque with a claimed fuel consumption of 6.5 L/100km. The Cargo conversion here sees the removal of the rear seat bench to enlarge the cargo area and the area outfitted with steel mesh. One large grid separates the cargo area and front seats. Smaller steel mesh has been installed on the windows for added security and to protect the windows from being damaged by cargo. The cargo area capacity is rated at 1 296-litres with the dimensions being 1 200mm in length, 1 200mm in width and 900mm in height.
Convenience features include an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-enabled 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with App based navigation included. There are also a plethora of USB charging ports and there's manual air conditioning. Safety-wise you'll find 2 front airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, ABS, EBD and brake assist as standard. Handling-wise, the Venue Cargo is geared more toward comfort but secure road-holding with cargo in mind. The front suspension consists of MacPherson struts with coil springs and a stabilizer bar. The rear features a torsion beam axle with coil springs.
