Service and warranty
Honda SA introduced a 5-year / 200 000 km full warranty on all new Honda cars sold. In order to see what kind of reliability these cars have, we consulted the JD Power website and checked for model-specific issues and customer complaints.
Known Issues
The biggest one to bring cause for concern is the transmission. All-new Honda SUVs are exclusively equipped with a CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission), which helps them achieve good efficiency and reasonable performance. Unfortunately, this particular CVT seems prone to some odd behaviour, noise, and, in extreme cases, failure.
Verdict
Based on the results reported in the model-specific JD Power consumer survey, it is safe to say that the Honda CR-V is indeed a reliable vehicle. However, should you consider a used model, be sure to do a thorough inspection as the condition greatly depends on how the vehicle was used throughout its lifespan. The only thing Honda can be accused of now is just not being exciting anymore.
