Honda CR-V test drive: make sure to check these features out.
Don't assume a car is right for you because it's new. Take a deeper look at all its features and offerings when you go to take it for a test drive. Here are some important things to consider when you go to check out the Honda CR-V.
Interior
With the last update in the Honda CR-V, the cabin was made smarter and more sophisticated than before, with enhanced ergonomics, upgraded materials and finishes, while ease of entry and exit was said to be best in class. Take note of the soft-touch surfaces, matt alloy accents and finely crafted stitching which all add to the upmarket ambience.
Infotainment system
1. Is it user-friendly?
2. Are essential functions in good reach for the driver?
3. Are there steering wheel controls for media functions?
4. Does my phone connect easily to the system?
Play around with the infotainment system as the infotainment system was also upgraded with extended functionality. The dashboard features a 5-inch full-colour display that acts as an intuitive interface for the CR-V’s infotainment system. It allows set-up and control of the four-speaker audio system, as well as the use of Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free telephony and music streaming.
The centre stack also houses the controls for the dual-zone climate control system and extends to the selector lever for the Constantly Variable Transmission (CVT), which is standard across the range.
Cabin space and comfort
Test the comfort levels from the driver AND passenger seats.
1. Are your seats adjustable?
2. Is the steering wheel adjustable?
3. How's the outward vision from the driver's seat?
4. Is the space enough for your family?
With the last update, the Honda CR-V boasted a cabin that was significantly more spacious, which is due to a significant increase in the wheelbase, as well as wider front and rear tracks. This has resulted in a meaningful increase in total interior volume. The CR-V’s two-mode floor allows the interior to be configured in a variety of different ways to reflect individual requirements.
Rear passenger legroom was increased by a full 9 cm. Shoulder room in the front and rear also increased. The 60/40 split rear bench seat can be folded flat to expand cargo capacity, creating a completely flat loading floor in the process. The rear bench seat also has a fold-down armrest.
Boot space
1. Does the Honda CR-V offer enough boot space for your lifestyle?
With the seats in place, the CR-V offers 522 litres of luggage space, which is extendable to 1084 litres with the seatbacks folded down.
Engines, drive and performance
1. Does the Honda CR-V offer enough power for your everyday needs?
2. How's the suspension when driving?
3. Which Honda CR-V is better: diesel or petrol?
4. Which Honda CR-V engine is the most efficient?
Get a feel for the brakes on your test drive as well as if there are any driver-assist systems. Test the CR-V's manoeuvrability when parking. Additionally, listen out for any noises coming from the engine bay if it's a used model.
