Driving the JCW Countryman on the wet tarmac on the way back was exceedingly enjoyable. Its strength lies in its power, hatch-like driving characteristics, spaciousness and tremendously handsome looks - plus, that All4 system makes you feel very confident when you tackle the turns. Drive it in manual mode and you’ll be delighted by some more cheerful chortling from the dual exhaust pipes.

In terms of the interior of the three models, again, expect the Cooper, Cooper S and JCW to be broadly similar, featuring a 5.0-inch colour screen digitised instrument cluster, a sports leather steering wheel, and an 8.8-inch Connected Media infotainment system. The Cooper model comes standard with combination cloth/artificial leather seats while the Cooper S gets leather items.
