BMW's latest announcement for the M2 provides a new option for owners, with an aero kit that makes the M2 look like something from the world of motorsport. For South African enthusiasts, the biggest news isn't just the aesthetic upgrades—it’s the mechanical evolution of the baby M.
M2 Goes All-Wheel Drive
In a significant shift for the purist-favourite coupe, reports suggest that the M2 will soon benefit from the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. While the rear-wheel-drive layout has been the hallmark of the M2’s drift-happy personality, the move to AWD is a calculated play for those who want better traction.
By distributing the power and torque to all four wheels, the M2 will now have the traction to compete with its bigger siblings (and rivals from Stuttgart) in 0–100 km/h sprints, particularly in unpredictable track conditions. The system is expected to remain rear-biased, preserving that signature M agility.
The M Performance Track Kit
Starting from July 2026, BMW will introduce an M Performance Track Kit specifically for the M2. This isn’t just a "sticker and spoiler" package; it’s a serious hardware overhaul developed by the same engineers who fine-tune BMW’s GT3 and GT4 race cars.
Aerodynamic Highlights:
Adjustable front splitter: Manually deployable for track use, working in tandem with a new front diffuser and engine oil cooler scoop.
Swan-neck rear wing: Directly inspired by the M4 GT3, featuring a unique "Race Mode." This allows the wing to slide 50mm rearward, increasing aerodynamic effectiveness. It also features an integrated brake light—a first for this type of aero.
Chassis & suspension: A threaded, four-way adjustable motorsport damper system (rebound and compression) that remains road-legal. The setup allows for a drop of up to 20mm in ride height.

The M2 CS exhaust
For those lucky enough to secure the exclusive BMW M2 CS, a new M Performance exhaust system is joining the catalogue.
The CS already boasts a 390 kW from its straight-six S58 turbo engine, but the new exhaust adds the theatre some may want. Made from carbon and titanium, the system is 8 kg lighter than the stock unit and features optimized gas routing to sharpen the acoustic profile across various drive modes.South African Pricing and Availability
